About PennPEG, or Penn Environmental Group, was the first environmentally-related student group at Penn, and was started after Earth Day in 1970. Since Penn president Amy Gutmann signed the ACUPCC in 2007 and created a task force to create Penn's Climate Action Plan, sustainability has taken off on campus. The administratively-run sustainability office, Green Campus Partnership (GCP) is hosted within Facilities and Real Estate Services and runs its own student group, the Penn Eco-Reps. GCP also runs a green fund grant which allocates money to innovative and impactful proposals for sustainability initiatives at Penn.
18 student-run sustainability groups have also cropped up and work together under the umbrella of Student Sustainability Association at Penn (SSAP). |
