About SPARC
MISSION STATEMENT: The Sustainable Philadelphia Alliance of Regional Campuses (SPARC) was launched in January 2014 to promote collaboration among sustainability groups from Philadelphia-area colleges and universities. SPARC seeks to provide a platform for communication and resource-sharing to improve students’ impact on the sustainability of their campuses.
STUDENT FELLOWS:
Each Philadelphia-area school will be represented by two student fellows. Involvement in SPARC will provide invaluable leadership experience along with networking opportunities. In its inaugural year, SPARC will be hosting a regional student sustainability conference along with monthly events designed to bring students together on specific topics. Fellows will have the opportunity to lead a working group in an area of their expertise and will be in a unique position to make an impact on the sustainability of their campuses.
Fellow terms last one full year, with the option to reapply if still enrolled in university.
ADVISORY BOARD MEMBERS:
The advisory board will consist of approximately 10 sustainability professionals and alumni of Philadelphia-area universities. Board members will provide important insight as well as connections to the wider Philadelphia community. Members will be in a unique position to influence the sustainability of campuses around Philadelphia along with networking and the potential for recruiting students into their organizations as volunteers or interns.
Advisory Board Members are expected to be interested in working with SPARC for multiple years to provide continuity for a primarily student-focused group where turnover is inevitable every few years.
